February is the month for lovers...

February is a month for lovers, as the 14th of the month is Valentine’s Day, a day to celebrate love, passion, and affection. Traditionally, couples will plan a romantic day or evening together to reaffirm their love for each other, whether with cards and flowers, a candlelit meal, or, if you’re lucky, a trip to Paris!

While some people might think Blackpool Tower doesn’t have the same iconic appeal as the Eiffel Tower, we disagree and believe the famous Lancashire seaside town has as much to offer for those looking for a romantic day with their significant other. All without airport transfers, cancelled flights, language barriers, and currency exchange rates too!

So we've got you covered if you’re looking for ideas for what to do with your loved one this Valentine’s Day. Come to Blackpool, it’s a town for lovers!

Food and Drink

A lavish meal with your loved one is a great way to spend Valentine’s Day. With everything from fish and chips by the seafront to high-end dining, let’s have a look at some options for romantic meals out in Blackpool.

The Empress Grill Room at The Winter Gardens

Found inside the historic Winter Gardens, The Empress Grill Room provides an elegant dining destination for a romantic evening. You’ll find bold international dishes served alongside gourmet British classics, as well as delicious desserts.

The contemporary interior of the restaurant provides a gorgeous contrast to the dramatic Art Deco architecture of the historic Winter Gardens and is sure to impress your sweetheart.

There are also some brilliant show and dine offers available, so you can enjoy a 2-course pre-show meal from £19.50 per person. For more information, sample menus, and opening times, visit the Winter Gardens website.

The Blackpool Tower Ballroom

Designed by legendary architect Frank Matcham, and opened in 1899, The Blackpool Tower Ballroom is packed full of Blackpool history, and of course, the venue for Strictly Come Dancing’s annual trip to Lancashire.

If you’ve been inspired by the BBC celebrity dance competition, you don’t need to have the skills of Anton Du Beke to be able to grace the magical sprung wooden dance floor of the ballroom, simply hold your partner close and hope for the best!

While we think the opportunity to take to the floor is one not to be missed, don’t feel you have to if you fear you have two left feet, as you can enjoy watching others spin across the floor to the sounds of the famous Wurlitzer Organ as you enjoy a sumptuous afternoon tea, complete with sandwiches, scones with closed cream and jam, cake, and tea or coffee.

For an extra special Valentine’s Day, why not upgrade your afternoon tea to include a bottle of champagne? You can book tickets and see the available options by visiting the Blackpool Tower website.

The Beach House Blackpool

Found between the North Pier and the Tower Festival Headland, The Beach House offers unrivalled views of the Irish Sea and can give you the perfect Instagrammble views of spectacular sunsets, as you enjoy a cocktail with your Valentine beside you.

There’s an extensive and varied menu with something for everyone, with a vibrant dining experience in the contemporary main restaurant or the conservatory-style dining area, and if you’re looking for cocktails, then you’re certainly in for a treat, with a wide selection of amazing drinks concocted by the Beach House’s expert mixologists.

Book a table by visiting The Beach House website.

Traditional Seaside Fare

February might not always bring the best weather to the North West of England, but should the sun come out, why not take a walk along the prom and grab some traditional seaside food to eat while sitting looking out over the sea?

The Big Fish Trading Co. and Traditional Chippy at Coral Island, found right on the Promenade in the centre of town serve award-winning fish and chips, as well as all the other chippy favourites, or you could pop into Captain Jack’s Bar & Grill, known for its stacker burgers and double dipped, extra wide, pork ribs.

Ice cream and the seaside go together like fish and chips, so why not pop into Scoop, an ice cream parlour found between Coral Island and the Central Pier on the Promenade, with its wacky combinations of ice cream flavours, milkshakes, and hot drinks for if the weather is a bit chilly!

Remember to grab a stick of Blackpool rock to take home with you as a memento of your Valentine’s Day out!

Fun Ideas For Couples

If you’re looking to spend the day and night doing something different in Blackpool, then we have some great ideas for a Valentine-themed adventure!

Coral Island

With its famous facade on the promenade, almost as iconic as the famous Tower, Coral Island is a brilliant idea for couples. Why not try and win your Valentine a soft toy from the crane grabbers, or see if you can win tickets from our arcade games and exchange them for a prize for your loved one from the ticket shop?

Take a walk in the park

For a tranquil escape away from the bustle of the centre of town, and somewhere to enjoy spending time together, then Stanley Park is the ideal place for a romantic stroll, or even a picnic if the weather holds up - but you might wanna wrap up warm, it’s still February!

This Grade II-listed park, which opened in 1926 and has been voted the best park in the UK numerous times, takes in over 390 acres of breathtaking beauty, with a magical combination of elegance, architecture, and horticulture.

More than two million people visit the park every year, which is decided into four zones: the north and western formal gardens; the eastern area lake and woodland area; and the southern stretch.

Take a stroll around the park, arm-in-arm with your Valentine, and visit the delightful Art Deco cafe that overlooks the ornamental Italian Gardens. Why not treat yourselves to a delicious afternoon tea?

The Golden Mile

It might not be the time of the year to be dipping your toes in the sea, but with six miles of sandy beaches with views across the Irish Sea, Blackpool Beach is the ideal place to stroll along the beach and blow away the cobwebs or walk off a lavish meal and get some fresh air. Spend some time in the relative peace and quiet of the beach before heading indoors to warm up and enjoy a cocktail or two!

Go Wild at Blackpool Zoo

If you want to take a walk on the wild side, the Blackpool Zoo is the place to be! With over 1,500 rare and exotic animals, including big cats, elephants, giraffes, and orangutans, it's a great place for animal lovers to explore.

There are various animal experiences on offer, if your Valentine has ever wanted to see behind the scenes, become a zoo keeper for the day, and get closer to their favourite beasts! Check out the Blackpool Zoo website for more information and tickets.
